According to a survey conducted by Glassdoor.com, they showed that only 25% of Americans take all of their vacation time that is allowed by their employers. Entrepreneurs take even less vacation time. Not only is visiting new cultures exciting and its a great learning experience. There are many health benefits associated with vacation time.
Vacation time helps you reduce stress. While you are away (hopefully not thinking about work), you tend to relax which reduces stress and this helps your heart stay healthy. The Framingham Heart Study found that women who took vacation once every six years or less were almost eight times more likely to develop coronary heart disease or have a heart attack than women who took at least two vacations per year.
Our sleep is typically disrupted when we have a lot of stuff on our minds. If we are deprived of sleep, we tend not to focus and be less alert. As such, our work productivity is diminished. Making time for vacation is very important for us to recharge our batteries and get extra sleep. When you are on vacation, we get to relax more and not think about work. Vacations can help interrupt bad habits that disrupt sleep such as working on the laptop late at night. If you have stress from work and you find your sleep is disrupted because of anxiety or tension, take time off and learn to reset your sleep pattern. Look at this post HERE for some other tips on how to get a better sleep.
Most of us do not stop working even when we leave the office. At home, we go on our laptop or check our e-mail. Going on vacation gives us time to get away from our laptops and without us constantly checking our e-mail. One of my favorite ways to stop FOMO and go on a fully digital detox it to go on a cruise. One great thing about cruising is that you have the ability to disconnect from the world. Sometimes we go on their computers for a few min a day but it is a great way to disconnect. That way you do not have to check your work e-mail.
So, is it time for you to take a vacation?
