How To Bring Small Town Charm Into ANY Home Today

If you’re anything like me, you’re addicted to watching shows on HGTV like Fixer Upper.  I love that show not just because of the amazing two stars of the show, Chip and Joanna Gaines who add a touch of humor and cuteness to their remarkable renovating and design skills.  The small town charm that they add to every home they work on is priceless.   My favorite part of the show is the final reveal where they show a picture of the old house without the updates to reveal the new home they created for the new owners!

Why small town charm is so IN right now

From all the magazines focusing on small towns being among the best places to live.  Where you can find the best schools for your children (if that’s something you’re looking for) to tv shows showcasing small town home prices and more.  Gilmore Girls had Stars Hollow, Suburgatory had Chatswin, The Simpsons has Springfield, Parks and Rec had Pawnee, and Hart of Dixie had Bluebell.   Small towns add a touch of class to anyone that lives in it.  I’m kind of obsessed if you can’t tell.

How you can add that small town charm to your home

  1. Add some molding inside your house to add instant charm.  There are different styles of molding from Casing, designed to cover the gap between the wall and the door or the wall and the window, to baseboards for the bottom of the wall, Crown molding is one of my favorites and a great way to add a crown like atmosphere to the top of the walls, Picture Rails are great for hanging pictures and showcasing yourself in the charm, Cove is sort of like Crown as it also is for the top of the wall, Bead and pearl moldings are two different, though very similar, types of trim that incorporate other designs into the molding, Egg and Dart molding is all about greek architecture, and Dentil is more of a classical architecture for the top of the walls.
  2. Add some antique furniture into your home.  You can get great deals at estate sales just visit this link to find ones in your area!
  3. Adding a bay window or skylights can be like adding instant charm to any home.
  4. Consider getting a rocking chair for your front porch.  I love the old styles but there are plenty of newer modern ones that can add charm to any entryway!
  5. Consider getting a wine bar or adding a wine cellar in your basement.
This will add a ton of charm to your already amazing home.
  6. Artwork can be an instant charm maker.  There are great auctions for art on board of cruise ships like Royal Caribbean.  Also you can find some great deals on art on One Kings Lane, Wayfair, and Joss and Main!
